Mark Bogues
Mark is a certified mindfulness meditation teacher and mentor, with a focus on awareness and compassion practices.
Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to personal growth and to finding a deeper, more meaningful way of relating to myself and the world around me. My journey began in my early twenties, when I first discovered meditation and gradually came to understand its transformative potential.
In 2009, I first encountered the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. A few years later, in 2014, I had the life-changing opportunity to move to Plum Village in France, the mindfulness practice centre founded by Thich Nhat Hanh. I was fortunate to able to spend seven years there, living in the residential community, deepening my own practice, and learning how to organise retreats and share the practice with others.
During this time, I received the Five Mindfulness Trainings in 2014, followed by the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings of the Order of Interbeing in 2016. The Mindfulness Trainings offer concrete ways of practice that deepen our understanding and help us see people, situations, and our environment more clearly.
In 2023, I completed a two-year professional training in awareness and compassion based practices, becoming a certified mindfulness meditation teacher. The programme was led by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield through Sounds True and the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley. In 2025, I continued my training with them and became certified as a mindfulness mentor.
I am profoundly indebted to Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village community for their support in developing and sustaining a daily mindfulness practice. The profound benefits of mindfulness have touched every aspect of my life, and I am dedicated to sharing these practices with others.
Presently, I help organise and lead mindfulness courses and offer mentoring to share some of the same opportunities for transformation that I have been fortunate to experience. I also work with Plum Village, coordinating the review of Thich Nhat Hanh’s Dharma talks for the Living Gems project, and I am part of Insight-Leadership, an organisation dedicated to bringing Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings into the field of leadership.
